Accessing MyPennState
To begin your journey towards a rewarding career in software engineering, you’ll need to access our MyPennState Portal. This portal serves as your gateway to our online admissions services. Before you can log in, you must create a Penn State account, which will be used for accessing all Penn State systems. Once you’ve created an account, you’ll receive a unique Penn State User ID. Remember to use your User ID followed by @psu.edu when signing in to MyPennState and other Penn State sites.
The application process consists of six sections:

- Citizenship and Residency
- Academics and Experience
- Miscellaneous
- Review and Submit
Application Setup
During the application setup, be sure to select “Online” as your preferred mode of completing your degree if you plan to attend Penn State World Campus. The rest of this section asks basic questions about your education experience and military affiliation.
Program of Study
In the program of study section, you’ll choose your degree type and starting semester. By default, Penn State World Campus will be selected as your starting campus if you’ve chosen “Online” in the application setup. Then, you’ll select your intended major from the list provided. Review your selection on the summary screen and click continue to move on to the next section.
Citizenship and Residency
In the citizenship and residency section, you’ll complete a series of questions regarding your citizenship status, demographic information, Pennsylvania residency status, and family history.
Academics and Experience
The academics and experience section requires you to enter information about your high school education and any college-level courses you may have taken. Additionally, there is an Education Gap Statement where you can explain any gaps in your education, such as work, family responsibilities, or attending another college or university.
Miscellaneous
The miscellaneous section allows you to provide any program-specific requirements, information about your activities, and details regarding financial aid.
Review and Submit
Before finalizing your application, take a moment to review all the information you’ve provided. Once you’re satisfied, digitally sign your application and make the required payment for the application fee. The fee is $65 for domestic applicants and $75 for international applicants.
High School Transcripts and Academic Record
In addition to completing the application, you’ll also need to self-report your high school coursework before the application deadline. You’ll be directed to fill out the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). Having your high school transcript available will be helpful during this process. Official high school transcripts or GED transcripts, along with records from any colleges or universities attended, are required, regardless of the length of time that has passed. If applicable, include military transcripts and proof of English language proficiency. SAT/ACT scores are not required for adult learners or transfer students.

Alternatively, you can also have your transcripts sent electronically through Parchment, eScript-Safe, or the National Clearinghouse directly to Penn State from the institution where you completed your coursework.
Acceptance
Once we’ve received your application, application fee, and all required materials, our admissions team will evaluate your application for admission. You can check the status of your application online through the MyPennState portal. This portal provides the most up-to-date information about the status of your application and is updated daily before 8:00 a.m. (ET). Once a decision has been made, it will be available to you through the portal.
